16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all  wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. - Colossians 3:16-17 

I love these verses in the book of Colossians. They speak clearly of the faith community that we are able to be a part of and the benefits we find in a space like a local church community. These same benefits can be found in any of the spaces where people exist if we are willing to walk out these principles among them.

When we, as believers, allow The Word to dwell within us, it compels us to admonish one another in wisdom. Admonish in the Bible means to instruct and advise and warn. We do this to help others understand the value of living a Christ centered life. When we find ourselves in an attitude of worship, it fosters an environment to encourage and train each other up in the truth, beauty, and goodness of who God is.

Worship is much more than singing and repeating words from someone on a stage. Worship is “the reverence or adoration that one shows toward something or someone.” Worshipping in the realm of work may mean that Jesus has a say in every step you take and every moment of your lives. His authority is paramount to you in your daily tasks. 

As Fathers, husbands, and men we need to understand and take hold of our biblical mandate to shepherd our families and those we lead. It is so important for us to lead out in that design with purpose. Lead your families in their expressions of worship to their creator, sustainer, author, and perfecter of their faith. Lead others as you best can by being a worshipper with each step you take during your day. Pray the Psalms over your family with thanksgiving in your heart. Challenge them to do everything that they do for His good and His glory.  Take some time today to choose one of the Psalms, read It and ask God to reveal a truth within it to pray over those around you.
