14 “Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” - Joshua 24:14-15 

There comes a point in each of our lives where we must decide if we are going to serve God. There comes a time when we need to respond to the way Christ has revealed Himself to us. Are we going to trust in the finished work of Christ on the cross to save us from the penalty of our sins and submit to His Lordship in our lives?

As followers of Christ, who have believed in, received, and trusted in the goodness of who God is and what He does for us, we should be able to resonate with the statement made in verse 15: 

“as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.

What does that look like in the daily routine of shepherding our families and those we lead as a follower of Christ, a husband and a father? I think it is a surrender first and foremost. A surrender of us as referenced in Luke 9:23.

 “And He said to all, If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me”. 

When we choose to serve Him, we are willingly putting our desires aside to accomplish His. Hopefully our desires fall in line with the beauty found inside the boundaries that He has set forth for us in the scriptures. It is a daily battle against the idea of serving self rather than what He is calling us to become. We are reminded in Hebrews to lay aside every weight, and the sin which clings so closely. This grants us the ability to run the race that is set before us with endurance, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. This is what it looks like to choose to serve Him. 

I am asking God to help us serve Him in sincerity and faithfulness
