11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him. 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. 13 As a father shows compassion to his children, so the LORD shows compassion to those who fear him. - Psalm 103:11-13

How awesome is it that these scriptures remind us of some amazing truths we need to hear! We are reminded that God loves us, God forgives us and understands us with compassion.

We need to be reminded of God’s love for us because the enemy wants us to believe that if we continue to sin, God will turn his back on us. The enemy also wants us to believe that we are so messed up that God has given up on us. Neither of those statements are true.

We need to be reminded that God forgives us because otherwise our sin would overwhelm us, cling to us, and weigh us down. The truth, however, is that all our sin has been atoned for in the finished work of the cross. 

We also need to be reminded that God understands us with compassion. He knows our limits, and He knows what we can handle. He knows our weaknesses and who He has created us to become. 

We need to allow these reminders to help us see how we should respond to our own children when they make mistakes. When we find ourselves having to discipline our children, may we discipline in such a way that we too are reminding them of these very things. God loves us, forgives us, and understands us. What an amazing opportunity we must model the truth, beauty, and goodness of our loving father as we father our children. 

If you are not married, or do not have children, this applies to you as well. We have an opportunity to prepare our hearts for every encounter we come across with others. Each person we meet is an eternal being who is desperate for the love that only the Father in heaven can provide. As you come in contact with these individuals, are you dwelling in this type of love from the Father?
