21 Day jumpstart

9 which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!  - Matthew 7:9-11

There is a parallel between fathers here on earth and our Heavenly Father.

It is difficult for our children to understand the heart of our Heavenly Father without the example we give them as fathers ourselves. There is so much riding on our willingness and ability to reflect the love of our Heavenly Father to our children. 

Jesus makes it clear that the Father longs to give us more than what we ask for. He reminds us that the Father answers with good gifts. When His children ask for things, He responds with the gift that will benefit His children. He will always give the right answer at the right time, and that answer will bring glory to Him. Even if we don’t fully understand the gift and its meaning in our current life. He is always working everything to His greatest good!

My prayer is that we too, as fathers and men,  would give the right answer at the right time and that our answers would bring glory to our Heavenly Father. I realize that none of us would give our children a stone if they asked for bread, but this analogy helps us to see the love of our Father and how we can reflect that love to our own children.  This applies for you who may not have children. The value we can speak into others lives is needed for those we don't have a family connection to. 

Let’s do our best to meet the needs of our children and those we lead with gifts of grace, encouragement, unconditional love and a steadfastness that emulates the goodness of our God. Ask God to give you wisdom as you seek Him through the Word and prayer as you lead your family and those you love.
