Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. - Acts 4:13

I used to hold to the idea that the men I read about in the scriptures were comparative to the ones I watched in superhero movies. These incredible men who were never afraid and always had the right answer to every question. I read about these men and pictured them with lighting behind them as they answered the pharisees, these men making other men's blood run cold as they walked in boldness to trust God in the unknown. 

Then I came across verses like this that share the reality of who they were. Some of them were extremely unlearned and uneducated. They didn’t know much beyond the savior who loved them and the simple truth that He was the way the truth and the life. 

We are walking the same earth they did, with the same basic issue and concerns about life and who they are as children of God. This gives me comfort and encouragement . 

Comfort in the idea that we start from the same place they did with Jesus, loved, valued, and chosen. Encouragement because we can choose how we desire to walk with the Lord. 

Are you going to see yourself as the ordinary men, meeting Jesus as Lord and Savior like everybody else who has been redeemed by Him? And are you going to realize that through Him you have the ability to do more than just make it through this life? 

God has more for you than simply existing, where do you need to give Him authority in your life that you are holding onto control of?
