21 Day jumpstart

18 Now when Jesus saw a crowd around him, he gave orders to go over to the other side. 19 And a scribe came up and said to him, “Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go.” 20 And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” 21 Another of the disciples said to him, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” 22 And Jesus said to him, “Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.” -  Matthew 8:18-22

This section in the scriptures has challenged me in more ways than I could begin to share, but I want to give you a glimpse into what it has produced in my life.  We read in verse 19 the scribe says he will follow Jesus wherever he goes. I trust there has been a moment in your life you have voiced those same words. We have felt a deep desire to be about what He wants us to be about. For me, I desire to be very purposeful to follow where the Spirit is leading. I am not just talking about the way I impact the world in and outside the walls of the church, but also about how I would lead my family as I parent my children, and shepherd my spouse. It is possible for us to just “go through the motions” of doing things with the outcome that it might just work out, but He has so much more for us. When we say, I will follow you wherever you go - do we really mean it?

Look at the response the scribe receives. He is told that foxes have holes, birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head. This call placed on us as believers is one that needs to be recognized and walked out in our daily lives, even if it means making a directional shift in something we are already doing. Will we honestly be willing to forsake it all, for the call to follow?

I desire there would be no areas of my life that am holding onto as a safe space. I know that he has called me outside of my normal comforts to parent well, love my spouse well, and to answer the call to follow Him and Him alone. We are always so full of excuses! We always feel like we need to take care of something first, just like the disciple in verse 21. Examine your life today and see if there are any areas of your life that you have not surrendered over to the Father. Take time today to give those over the God in prayer.  

The truth is simply this, He says come and follow!
