13 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done in love. - 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

What an awesome task we have been given as fathers, husbands, and men of God. We have this calling to be watchful, to stand firm, to act like men, and to be strong. As we are called to these things, we are also challenged to do them in love. 

So, what does that actually mean for us? Let’s first look at the initial command given in these verses. It says to be watchful. That would simply mean we need to be “vigilant or alert, or closely observant.” It then goes on to say we need to stand firm. We read here about the reality that we need to firm up, tighten, and or strengthen not only our faith, but our leading and leaning into who we are in Christ. Then we read this phrase that states to “act like men”. This simply means for us to be brave as we shepherd our spouse, children and those who look up to us. We can accomplish this through walking in the truth, beauty, and goodness of who God is. Of course, we are called to do all these things in an attitude of love. We lead our homes in a way that is pleasing to the Father. We don’t lead in such a way that it is all about us, and what we believe we should get out of it. As a matter of fact, you should lead in a way that you are willing to put aside what you want so that your spouse, children, and others will have what they need. I am certain that you can rest in the fact that as you chase after the things of God, He will grant you the desires of your heart as you lead those around you closer to His.
