21 Day jumpstart

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. - Proverbs 23:24

This proverb speaks of how a father of the righteous will rejoice. It actually says he will rejoice greatly. This doesn’t mean that we raise our sons to be righteous in and of themselves, for that would simply be teaching them to be self-righteous. The only way we can be righteous is to find ourselves before a Holy God in an attitude of repentance, putting our faith in the finished work of Christ on the cross. It is then and only then that we can begin to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel. We should be seeking to model and emulate to our sons and those we lead what it looks like to be chasing after wisdom. We know that wisdom is seeing things from God’s perspective and making choices based on that perspective. This is what it looks like to have a biblical worldview. We begin to walk in a manner worthy of the gospel because we have found our righteousness in Him and Him alone, and we are living daily making choices based on the truth of the scriptures.

I know that in my own life, the day my son trusted in the finished work of Christ on the cross for the redemption of his sin was truly a day of rejoicing as it has been for all my children. 

You may not be a father yet or have the desire to ever be one but we can still use this as a barometer in our walk with the Lord.  Are you living your life as a child of God that others can model and emulate to be like? 

1 Corinthians 11:1 “Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ.”

May we, as fathers, men and leaders find ourselves continually chasing after the truth, beauty, and goodness of God in such a way that our children, spouses and those we impact fall more in love with the God we serve.
