21 Day jumpstart

5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. -  Philippians 2:6-8

In this passage we see a beautiful reminder to first, empty ourselves. When I read this, I feel an urgency to let go of all I think I am and want to be. I desire to honestly place myself in a position of total surrender. I see a command to lay it all aside for the ultimate glory of the God who called me, redeemed me, and restored me. I feel a call to do all that I can to help others see and experience the love and grace of our Holy Father.

When we put this in the context of being a husband, father and follower of Jesus, we once again are compelled to empty ourselves of our desires. We do this in order that our wife, children and those who come in contact with us would experience the love of our Father through our actions and words.

I think we could honestly say that, as fathers, husbands and leaders, we would be more than willing to put our lives on the line for our families. We are inclined to provide and protect our spouse and children. When push comes to shove, we would take on whatever was coming their way.

For that to happen, we truly need to be in a space where we are willing to let it all go, lay it all down, and hold fast to the One who holds fast to us. In doing so, we put forth a picture of the rescuing redeemer whom we love and serve. 

May we humbly submit ourselves to provide, prepare, and protect our children and our wives. May we stand in the gap and battle against what culture is trying to dictate and spur them on towards the King of kings. For us, it’s a call to surrender, selflessness, and service!
